Each Essential Skills program offers a diagnostic pretest to create a personalized learning experience for every student. The Reading Comprehension test evaluates students’ reading level and knowledge of reading comprehension strategies through a series of carefully graded stories designed to ensure accurate placement within each Reading Comprehension program.

Following completion of the Reading Comprehension test, students are placed at the appropriate level for their ability. This prevents learners from being frustrated by material that is either too easy or too challenging.

The Reading Comprehension test gives teachers an easy-to-use tool to vary instruction for each student based on individual needs and required reading comprehension strategies. This translates into significant time savings, giving teachers more time for lesson planning or working one-on-one with high-need students.

Reading Comprehension Activities

The Reading Comprehension programs offer an enriching experience for students, featuring hundreds of fiction and non-fiction stories accompanied by reading comprehension activities to reinforce a variety of reading comprehension strategies. Designed to appeal to auditory, visual, and tactile learners, the reading comprehension activities offered in this engaging series are well suited for different learning styles and levels of ability.

The reading level of each story gradually increases, while new reading comprehension strategies are introduced slowly as students progress through the programs. Each story is accompanied by reading comprehension activities, including word recognition exercises for new vocabulary. This carefully measured approach allows students to develop their abilities gradually, establishing a strong foundation as they learn.
